Turtles, Frogs, and Toads Oh My!

This morning was a blast. Spent the first class of my day, Zoology of course, chest deep in the ponds today pulling in all of the turtle traps that where set the evening before. It was great! We managed to get three yellow bellied sliders today. One male recapture and two newbies to the study... a male and a juvenile that we're guessing is a male as well. After the measuring, weighing, and marking everyone I managed to take a look at Danielle's extra credit amphibians she had wrangled up. She managed to capture a male southern toad (was so jealous BTW since it counts as 4 points of extra credit which is half of a letter grade), a squirrel tree frog, a leopard tree frog, and two Cuban tree frogs. Since the Cubans are an invasive exotic species in our area by law they had to either be kept or destroyed. We opted for keeping the beautiful females... one for me and one for her.  :)  Both are females we believe but we separated them just in case, and because they can eat a ton. My two inch long female, Castrina,  is contently at my bedside sleeping in her enclosure.

This evening was quite an adventure as well. I met back up with Danielle at a location we know has a booming amphibian population. She managed to find a mystery frog and is planning on achieving her last extra credit point with a lizard of some kind. While "hunting" LOL I managed to snag a female leopard tree frog, a female spade foot toad(?), a female squirrel tree frog, a large female southern toad and a rather young one, and a MALE SOUTHERN TOAD!!! Thank you Bufo terrestris. He definitely made a release call when I was handling him to find his nuptual pads and nearly vibrated out of my hand.

A Little Introduction

My name is Sarah and I am a college student with Asperger's Syndrome who wants to become a Zoologist and specialize in the conservation of endangered animals. I love all types of animals, but am especially fond of  turtles & tortoises, amphibians, big cats, and primates.
Well, that's me and you'll learn more over time.
